I'm not usually a big anime fan. Nothing against the genre, I just never got into it in the way most of my generation did. I like Studio Ghibli's works, and I've dabbled occasionally in anime tv series, but never really fallen in love with anything...
Until I watched The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. It's a parody anime, so a lot of it probably goes over my head, but the basic premise is that our main character, Saiki Kusuo, is a 15-year-old psychic where "psychic" appears to mean everything from telepathy to the ability to rewind time for the entire planet by a year. The dude is practically omnipotent outside of restricted-for-plot-and-humor reasons... and he's pretty miserable. Constantly listening to everyone's thoughts, seeing through everyone's clothes--and skin--and accidentally rewriting history are all, for him, mostly annoyances that get in the way of his goals of being unnoticed and ignored.
The plots of episodes generally revolve around his psychic abilities causing him trouble that he attempts to solve by using more psychic powers... and it sometimes goes well, but usually not. The show also pokes fun of a bunch of different anime genres but, again, not my scene so I'm mostly oblivious to that. One thing I did pick up on: the in-universe reason that everyone has weird hair colors is that he was born with pink hair, so he used "mind control" to make people think that was normal... with the unfortunate side effect that now a lot of people have been born with unusual hair colors too.
The show very smartly solves the issue of how incredibly creepy and power-imbalanced it would be if he fell in love with someone by making him completely uninterested in sex and romance (it's hard to be attracted to people when you see through their skin).
Anyway, it's on Netflix and is a really fun show. Highly recommended!
